Safety tips
Most local deals go smoothly. These habits make them safer for buyers and sellers.
Meeting up
- Meet in a well-lit public place when you can, such as a busy parking lot in daylight.
- Bring a friend or tell someone where you are going and when.
- For large items you must see at a home or lot, go during the day and trust your instincts.
Payment
- Wiregrass Preowned does not hold or transfer money between buyers and sellers. Agree on payment between yourselves.
- Be cautious of anyone who asks you to wire money, send gift cards, or pay a stranger before seeing the item.
- Count cash and check any cashier's check with the issuing bank before handing over a vehicle or title.
Vehicles, boats, and RVs
- Ask to see the title and make sure the seller's name matches it.
- Check the VIN on the vehicle against the title and listing, and consider a history report.
- Test drive or test run it, and have a mechanic look it over if you can.
Appliances and furniture
- Test appliances before paying. Ask to see them power on and run.
- Measure doorways and your vehicle before you go to pick up large pieces.
Auctions
- Read each lot's details and photos before you bid. A winning bid is a commitment to buy.
- Only bid what you are prepared to pay.
